Duncan Blake Enterprise Voice Architect
Duncan's Bio:
As Enterprise Voice Architect, Duncan provides consulting expertise on production Enterprise deployments of Microsoft Unified Communications products, particularly the Voice components, including Office Communications Server co-existence and integration with existing enterprise telephony environments.
Duncan’s experience at Microsoft includes testing PBX interoperability and PSTN connectivity on the RTC (later UC) product teams, and driving technical product management initiatives around Voice on the UC team.
As a Technical Product Manager for Unified Communications at Microsoft, Duncan was a leading internal expert on competitive solutions in Enterprise Voice, developing interoperability and compete labs and collateral, and supporting Field escalations. Duncan designed and implemented the PBX interoperability demo environment used for both the OCS and LCS worldwide product launch events, both featuring Bill Gates in the launch demos. Duncan was a regular presenter at executive briefings for Microsoft customers, and at industry events such as TechReady and VoiceCon.
As a Software Test Engineer on the OCS product team at Microsoft, Duncan owned end-to-end scenario testing covering Enterprise Voice. This included scenario designs and test passes across all Voice areas of the OCS product family and partner products, including PBX/PSTN connectivity, Remote Call Control, Gateway interoperability, Federated voice and conferencing, Microsoft UC devices (Roundtable, Tanjay, Catalina), and Exchange Unified Messaging (ExUM) interactions.
Duncan also owned Remote Call Control feature testing for Live Communications Server SP1 and Communicator 2005. He configured and maintained numerous supported PBXs and gateways, including Cisco Call Manager and Unified Presence Server, Siemens HP4000 and TCL, Mitel 3300 and LBG, Nortel CS1K and MCM, Genesys GETS, and SIP/PSTN gateways from Shout, AudioCodes, Dialogic, Intel, and other manufacturers. He provided deployment and integration assistance to Microsoft's IT group for the world’s first production LCS/PBX integration deployment.
Previously at Microsoft, Duncan tested Microsoft Routing and Remote Access (RRAS) for the Windows Sustained Engineering (WINSE) team, managing and testing widely varied telecommunications circuits including POTS, ISDN, ATM, and FDDI, and prior to that, owned testing the Mobile system Hardware Compatibility Test (HCT) Kit for Microsoft's Windows Hardware Quality Labs (WHQL).
Prior to Microsoft, Duncan was a Systems and Network Administrator for Opinion Research Corporation. Duncan managed the IT and telephony services and products (PBX, voicemail, T1s, and integrated predictive dialers) for ORC's Tampa Bay contact center, and assisted in migrating their US WAN from a managed service to internal operations. Duncan also developed a call accounting system and Computer Aided Telephone Interviewing (CATI) tools for Fortune 500 companies.
Duncan has completed most requirements for a degree in Neuropsychology/Cognitive Science from Hampshire College.
