I noticed over the weekend that there are European language localized versions of CoMo for Java up now on the Microsoft download center.
They don’t appear to be available via www.getcomo.com yet, but I’m sure that’s just a matter of time. It’s too bad the language updates still only show English there, because I really like the GetCoMo wizard, which helps you select the exact CoMo package (Java or otherwise) directly on your mobile phone (with appropriate external certificates and such, which makes the install process easier/possible). The wizard uses a couple of simple filters, based on region (India, Europe, US), carrier (appropriate for each of those regions), device manufacturer (Motorola, Nokia) and handset model (too many to list, but basically the Motorola RAZR 3.xx family and the Nokia handsets from the S40, S60 R1, Nokia S60 R2 families).
Based on the download links, and the language choices, it’s now available localized in nine European languages: Danish, Dutch, Finnish, French, German, Italian, Spanish, and Swedish. And of course, the previously available English version.
CoMo Java enables some pretty powerful IM/presence features with OCS, specifically:
- View contact availability (using their real time rich presence information).
- Initiate single and multi-party IM sessions with the ability to easily navigate across multiple open IM sessions.
- Get updated contact information directly from your company directory.
I’ve tested that the localized downloads work (after remembering that you have to actually click “Change” after you select a different language on the download page. D’oh!) but haven’t installed any of them. If any of you have, please let me know what your experience is like!
That’s all for now,
-Duncan
