Enabling Basic Monitoring

Basic monitoring of Session Border Controllers (SBCs) provides near-real-time alerting on issues that are related to Zoom and Microsoft Teams phone systems. It ensures end-to-end service availability for your Microsoft Phone and Zoom Systems with proactive monitoring.

Real-time alerting helps you identify and remediate ongoing issues. Our unique blend of synthetic transactions alerts you to Zoom or Microsoft Teams phone issues in your environment.

To enable monitoring complete the form below.

What is PowerSuite Start Monitoring?

Basic Monitoring immediately alerts you of any systemic failures impacting inbound PSTN calls for Zoom and Microsoft Teams, based on synthetic transactions. By using synthetic transactions and simulating end-user behavior, any issues within the overall system will be found. PowerSuite Basic Monitoring immediately alerts you when the following occurs on your Zoom or Microsoft Teams environment:

  • A failure in the environment prevents users from receiving incoming PSTN calls.
  • The failure has been resolved and the system is working again.

How do I set up PowerSuite Start Monitoring?

We recommend that you set a scenario for every unique location that is used to host Zoom or Microsoft Teams calls. If you have three distinct offices that host Zoom calls (example: EMEA Headquarters, US Office, Australia office), you would set up three scenarios for Zoom. If your EMEA Headquarters also hosts Teams calls, then you would also set up a single scenario for Teams, totaling four scenarios. PowerSuite Start Basic Monitoring supports up to five scenarios.  For each scenario we need three pieces of information:

  • Platform: Within each office location, select which platform you wish to monitor. If you use both platforms at a single location, then create two entries.
  • Scenario Description: Typically this is the office location that you want to monitor.Learn More.
  • Target Phone Number: The phone number, including the country code, that will be used to answer the synthetic phone call. Learn More.

Please complete the form below.

PowerSuite Start supports a total of five scenarios. If you need additional scenarios please Contact Us

What is a Scenario Description?

The Scenario Description is used to identify both the office location and the platform that is generating the alert. The description then appears within the Alert message that is sent to the administrator when a problem occurs. For example, a Scenario Description could be, “EMEA Headquarters – Paris Office, Zoom Outage.” To learn more about Scenario Descriptions, click here.

What is a Target Phone Number?

To receive PowerSuite Monitoring Alerts for your organization, you will need to set up a target phone number for each office location. These target phone numbers will be used to answer calls from synthetic transactions. The target phone numbers are Auto Attendants and must play a sound for a minimum of 30 seconds once a connection has been made. To learn how to set up an Auto Attendant for both Zoom and Teams, click here.

Once the Auto Attendant phone number has been configured, it needs to be submitted in the E.164 phone number format. This format includes the + symbol, the country code, area code, and local number. For example:

New report reveals trends around collaboration applications and their impact on today’s enterprises and employees

We’ve all been there… head down, focused on the task at hand, when a coworker sends a funny GIF on Slack, or the boss flags yet another project request. Concentration is suddenly interrupted, the flow of work brought to a screeching halt. This all-too-common experience is just one of the many reasons behind the love-hate relationship workers today have with workstream collaboration applications.

Remote work is becoming more and more common for enterprise employees, and teams are increasingly disparate. Productivity and efficiency have become cornerstone benchmarks of performance and value.

As the world struggles with the unprecedented COVID-19 crisis, businesses of all sizes are asking employees to work remotely.

Since mid-January we’ve been helping our customers around the world adjust their Skype for Business, Zoom and Microsoft Teams unified communications (UC) systems to respond to the Work-From-Home onslaught. Not surprisingly, we’ve started noticing some obvious patterns emerge. We understand that IT teams are under significant strain as they support the unexpectedly high number of remote employees.

To that end, we’ve compiled this checklist of top challenges and solutions/adjustments to help best scale your UC systems.

Working from home can be an adjustment in any scenario, but in the past few weeks many people have unexpectedly been asked to stay home to work to help slow down or prevent the spread of COVID19.

In the past, many employees have had the occasional “Work from home days” during their normal week, but this is much different than making a forced full-time adjustment.  A sudden shift to “work from home” and the range of adjustments that it entails can make it difficult to find a rhythm that works for you and your family. Compounding this adjustment is a lack of guidance if you don’t have other folks who are accustomed to working from home to provide guidance.

Here are some helpful tips for making working from home easier on you as a human.

Anyone looking to educate themselves on how to approach a Skype for Business to Teams migration will need patience, lots of caffeine, and the ability to objectively vet reams of data.

In addition to the myriad of technical documents which have been devoted to this subject, there have been many Microsoft partners, including the brain trust here at Unify Square, who have zeroed in on this topic.

Microsoft has been very clear that their UC future is Microsoft Teams. Given the huge Skype for Business install base, the customer interest and demand for this migration topic is not surprising. However, before simply stepping straight into a Teams upgrade framework, our latest take on how to upgrade to Microsoft Teams is a bit unconventional.

Proactively Monitor UC System Health

Your UC deployment, is working great…until it isn’t. Ensuring optimal call quality and service availability especially during peak remote work times is a tricky task, especially given the uncertainties of home networks and un-optimized devices.

Manage Remote Home Users
So many of your employees are working from home because of the COVID-19 virus; it’s even harder to support these new working scenarios. Implement proactive support and troubleshooting for remote employees to keep them happy and productive.
Detect and Resolve Network & Device Issues

Reporting can sometimes be a less-glamorous side of the IT equation. However, reporting is invaluable in order to correctly drive accountability and track return on your investment as you deploy new platforms.
