Microsoft’s Skype for Business software platform has a many-chaptered history. First released in 2007 as Office Communicator, aka OCS, it became the enterprise communications tool Lync in 2011. In 2015, it was reborn again as Skype for Business and featured as the core unified communications and collaboration platform for Microsoft’s Office 2016 suite. In addition to being featured as a core part of Office, Skype for Business is one of the key UC applications included in Office 365 collaboration. It wasn’t, until late 2015 however, that Skype for Business Online debuted in Office 365—and through Cloud PBX capabilities, allowed organizations to go “full cloud” with their voice infrastructure.
The Skype for Business mission is to completely replace enterprise legacy PBX systems. This is a huge and intricate undertaking—from Instant Messaging to voice and video conferencing to complete voice systems—requiring the stitching together of complex call management, SIP, Session Border Controllers (SBC), and endpoint voice and video devices, all under the control of the Skype for Business software. Embracing this immense Microsoft UC transition poses significant challenges for enterprise IT. We see it as a significant opportunity to help IT navigate and succeed in this new environment.
Since the birth of OCS a decade ago, Microsoft has continued to expand and enhance their unified communications software. But they have always steered clear of creating a monitoring and management application to accompany Skype for Business.
The power of Skype for Business software demands equally powerful software to optimize the way it is deployed and used. With our PowerSuite (see pricing here) integrated Skype for Business operations solutions suite, Unify Square has stepped up to meet this critical need. The fit couldn’t be better, given our corporate vision of helping global enterprises transform their businesses by transforming the way they communicate.
For Unify Square, it’s all about the software to help accelerate UC transformations—the software that is PowerSuite, and which drives all of our cloud managed service workflows, and the software tools that help our global consultants improve Skype for Business ROI for enterprise customers worldwide.
